Helps start and fund the Southwestern Pennsylvania chapter of the Interfaith Alliance, a nonpartisan organization that advocates for religious liberty.

Joins the Calvary Episcopal Church Outreach Committee. A lifelong member of the church, Hillman has also been part of the vestry, served on the music committee, taught Sunday school, and provided a link between the church and the mayor as part of an effort to improve race relations in the community.

Co-chairs the Regional Renaissance Initiative, a plan to fund construction of a new convention center and two new sports stadiums in Pittsburgh.

Helps to create the Center for Women in Politics at Chatham College with the Elsie Hilliard Hillman Chair position

Becomes the co-chairman of the Home Rule Campaign to change the government structure of Allegheny County.
